AI-Powered Mathematics Teaching at CASE: a room full of curiosity, questions and possibility

The CURIOV8 workshop at the College of Agriculture, Science and Education brought together more than 25 teachers for a practical conversation about AI, mathematics pedagogy, classroom judgement and the future of teacher professional learning.

The workshop was a smashing success. More than 25 teachers came together for a focused professional learning experience around one urgent question: how can artificial intelligence help mathematics teachers work more creatively, critically and effectively?

From the beginning, the room had the feel of genuine professional enquiry. Teachers were not simply listening to a presentation about technology. They were testing ideas, asking sharp questions, comparing classroom realities and thinking carefully about what AI might make possible in mathematics teaching.

The partnership with CASE gave the session a strong sense of place and purpose. It was not an abstract conversation about the future of education. It was rooted in teachers, students, local classrooms and the practical work of planning, explaining, assessing and responding to learners.

Teachers remarked how valuable the session was, particularly because the AI conversation stayed close to real mathematics teaching rather than becoming a generic technology demonstration.

AI as a thinking partner, not a replacement for teachers

A major thread running through the session was professional judgement. Participants explored how AI chatbots and planning tools can support lesson design, generate examples, suggest misconceptions, adapt explanations and help teachers refine classroom resources. At the same time, the conversation kept returning to ethics, accuracy and the responsibility teachers carry when using any AI-generated output.

This balance mattered. The workshop positioned AI as a thinking partner: useful, provocative and powerful, but always requiring mathematical checking, teacher interpretation and care for learners. That framing helped teachers move beyond fear or hype and into practical experimentation.

Kaizen Maths was well received

One of the strongest practical moments came through discussion of the Kaizen Maths platform. Teachers responded positively to the idea of digital tools that support purposeful practice, clear mathematical structure and step-by-step learning. The platform helped make the conversation concrete: not just what AI might do in theory, but how technology can support the actual flow of mathematics learning.
